Successful surgical extraction of an impacted mandibular third molar in a patient treated with head & neck radiotherapy and chemotherapy for oral cancer

Osteoradionecrosis (ORN), a pathological condition characterized by nonvital bone occurring in the site of radiation injury, is one significant risks following extraction highly impacted third molar teeth patients treated with head & neck radiotherapy for oral cancer. Therefore, surgery’s meticulous planning essential to avoid such complications. This case report describes 63-year-old male patient diagnosed an lower (tooth #38) concurrent basal cell carcinoma right ear and squamous vocal cord radiotherapy. Taking into account patient’s health status, minimally invasive osteotomy corono-radicular separation procedure were performed. allowed us reduce risk mandibular ORN. Three years later, healing was complete, situation stable.
